Is your modem installed?
To connect to the Internet, your modem should be properly installed.
- Click start button
- Click settings
- Click control panel
- Double click Modems
- Click add to start install modem wizard
- Follow the instructions
- You would be asked to reboot, do as required
Is Dial-up Networking installed?
To setup your Surfster ISP dial-up profile Dial-up Networking should also be installed.
For Windows (98/2000/ME) users:
1.Select My Computer on your Desktop.
2.Select Dial-up Networking.
3.Select Make New Connection.
4.Type “Surfster ISP” where prompted. Make sure that your modem
is selected for use on the “Select Device” field. Click Next.
5.Type 755.9800 and/or 876.5400 when prompted for a phone number. Click Next.
6.Click Finished.
7.Right-click the new Surfster ISP icon.
8.Select Properties.
9.In General, uncheck 'Use Area code and Dialing Properties'.
10.Select the Server Types tab.
11.Uncheck 'Log on the Network', 'Enable software compression' in Advanced
Option.
12.Uncheck 'NetBEUI' and 'SPX/IPX compatible' in 'Allowed NetWork Protocols.
13.Click Ok.
14.Right click on the Surfster ISP icon. Select “Create Shortcut”.
You now have a Surfster ISP icon on your desktop.
For Windows XP users:
1.Right Click My Network Places.
2.Select Properties.
3.Select "Create new Connection".
4.This will start the "Connection Wizard". Click Next.
5.Select "Connect to the Internet". Click Next.
6.Select "Setup My Connection Manually". Click Next.
7.Select "Connect Using a Dial-up Modem". Click Next.
8.Type in the “Sursfter ISP”. Click Next.
9.Type 755.9800 and/or 876.5400 when prompted for a phone number. Click Next.
10.Type in the Username and Password from the card. Confirm the Password.
11.Uncheck "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection".
12.Click Finished.
13.Right click on the Surfster ISP icon. Select “Create Shortcut”.
You now have a Surfster ISP icon on your desktop.
Is your modem working fine?
You cannot establish a connection if your modem is not working fine.
- Click on Start button
- Click on Settings
- Double-click Modems
- Modem Properties window appears
- Select tab for Diagnostics
- Select and highlight the port where your modem is installed
- Click on “More Info” to start diagnosing your modem
- More Info window appears and display the Port information of your modem
Why is it my connection always being disconnected?
Is the phone line cable connector properly connected on your modem?
Please double check if the connector is properly inserted on your modem. There are two connections on some modems: line in and phone in. The phone line should be inserted on the line in connection.
Is the phone line connected to the modem also connected to an extension phone?
If you have an extension somewhere on your house, please make sure that it is not being used.
Is the phone line connection cable still in good condition? Please check the integrity of the phone line cable connected to your modem.
Double-check for scratches that may damage the wires inside the cable, if so replace these phone line cables.
Is the speed of your modem in correct setting?
Modem speed affects the way your modem tries to negotiate a handshake on any
ISP.
- Click on start button
- Click on settings
- Click on control panel
- Double-click Modems
- Modem Properties window appears
- Click on Properties
- Click on Properties
- If your modem is capable of 56K try lowering the speed to 57600
- If your modem is not capable of 56K try lowering it to 33600 or 28000
- “Only connect at this speed” should not be tick
- Click on OK to return to previous window and click on OK to accept the action
